Hello, I’m Johannes Peitz, I was born in Saarbrücken and grew up in Trier. I started teaching at the age of 14, first at the music school in Prüm, and then alongside my studies in Hanover.
In addition to my concerts and work with my students, I like to travel the world very often to master classes or as a wind coach for the Schleswig Holstein Festival Orchester (SHMF).
I read a lot of philosophical things: I’m a big fan of Friedrich Nietzsche, but also Camus, Hölderlin and I am still very excited about reading them all.
And of course Paul Sartre: Freedom is total and infinite
Johannes received his first clarinet lessons from Adolf Heinl in Trier and Wolfgang Meyer in Karlsruhe. After leaving school, he studied the clarinet with Hans Deinzer at the Hannover College of Music. At the age of 23, he became a solo clarinettist with the radio orchestra of Norddeutscher Rundfunk in Hannover. Three years later he assumed the same post with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, where he played for 10 years.
As a soloist, he has performed with conductors like Horst Stein and Ingo Metzmacher and partnered Sabine Meyer and the Trio di Clarone in chamber works. Between 1992 and 1998 he also appeared as a guest performer with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, and Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam. His recordings on the EMI, Capriccio, CPO, and Edel labels include Mozarts Gran Partita, and the recording of Mendelssohn’s concert-pieces together with Sharon Kam won the Echo-Klassik award.
Johannes first taught in Weimar and Frankfurt, and since 2000 is Professor in the Hannover School of Music, where he teaches an extremely successful class. He has been the woodwind coach at the Orchestra Academy of the Schleswig Holstein Music Festival since 1998.
